Guru Singh

“The map to our life exists inside everyone of us.”

Yogi, Musician, Writer

Guru Singh M.S.S., is a yogi, teacher, writer, composer-musician, shaman, ordained minister, healer, and most importantly as he says "a family man", living in Los Angeles and sometimes in India, London and New Mexico. Living with his wife and their two children, his life exemplifies a delicate and vital balance; honoring family and personal commitments while maintaining his spiritual dedication to working with the people of this world.

He was born in 1945 in Seattle and as he puts it, immediately understood that he was not 'normal'. With a huge appetite for music he began studying at the age of five. By the end of his teenage years he was playing several instruments including the guitar, piano, violin, harmonica, flute and hand drums. At that time while attending the University of Washington, he began performing as a singer and songwriter in local clubs.

In early 1966 Warner Bros. Reprise Records heard his music which was focused on the 'Peace Movement' and the challenges of honoring real life. They immediately signed him to a recording contract and moved him to San Francisco.
As a powerful voice against the war in Vietnam, Guru Singh became the target of the 'Co-Intel-Pro' operation that was J. Edgar Hoover's answer to the Peace Movement in America.

To avoid the insanity of this dangerous and unchecked power, Guru Singh left San Francisco's Haight Ashbury and spent the next 13 months training in an ancient form of musical healing. This took place in the remote mountains of southern Mexico's wilderness. His teachers were the Maraakame masters, an indigenous community totally isolated from the outside world. The experiences are the subject of his current book project Buried Treasures.

After returning from this adventure Guru Singh met Yogi Bhajan, a spiritual leader from northern India and master of Kundalini yoga. From January 1969 through the present, Guru Singh has been studying and teaching Kundalini yoga and meditation, a science taught in India for over four thousand years.

Kundalini yoga, known as the 'Yoga of Awareness', appeals to a mass audience worldwide because of its attention to the subtle details of human life. The practitioner can fully engage worldly responsibilities while achieving enlightenment.
Since December of 1969, Guru Singh has been teaching throughout the world, with people of all ages, cultures and lifestyles.
Guru Singh is one of the visiting teachers to a school for world children ages 8-18 in Amritsar, India. This advanced education enables children to excel beyond the stress of our modern societies. His daughter graduated from this academy and his son teaches history and math there.

Working for the children of this world has led him to a renewed passion for 'Peace on Earth.'
Guru Singh works with people privately as a sound therapist. His counseling practice restores the natural physical, mental and emotional harmonies through meditating with applied sound. Using an extensive background in music Guru Singh worked with Yogi Bhajan to develop a modern technology for an ancient transformational science known as Sahaj Shabd Therapy. He works with clients in Los Angeles and London.
